When people receive bad news, I think it's a bit intuitive to put up some defenses, and perhaps react out of character. Your advice on taking a moment to respond is pure gold. That extra moment could mean the difference in creating a stronger bond or potentially pushing someone away, even unintentionally. Congrats on the good news!
